Product placement has been happening in film and television since way back when and quite possibly the most successful example is the Reese’s Pieces scenes in E.T. – the Extra-Terrestrial. Product sales tripled after this 1982 Steven Spielberg movie about a kid who befriends an alien. Mars was first offered the deal with M&Ms, but they turned it down and Hershey’s later accepted. Reese’s Pieces are an extension of the brand’s original peanut butter cups and though they are different, they are equally delicious.
