The actress was born in Pekin, Illinois but moved to Bedford, New York after her father got a job at a local newspaper. She was a top student at Fox Lane High School and also worked after school as a model. She received her first audition for a TV series and immediately booked the part of Laurie Partridge on The Partridge Family. Dey became an instant sensation as the idealistic and clearly stunning Laurie. She began filming the series as soon as she graduated from high school in 1970.
