Newton-John moved with her family from Cambridge, England to Melbourne, Australia when she was just six years old. She attended the University High School in Melbourne and fell in love with music there. She formed Sol For, an all-girls singing group with her classmates, while at the school. Soon after graduating high school she won a singing competition with the grand prize of a trip to England. She ended up staying there for several years to pursue a solo music career.
