[post_page_title]Tom Cruise thinks on his feet in Top Gun[/post_page_title]
While Tom Cruise’s breakthrough role was 1983’s Risky Business, he didn’t become the huge superstar he still is today until 1986, when he starred in a little arthouse film about beating the Ruskies called Top Gun. Cruise played arrogant U.S. Navy aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the movie that became an eighties classic, and will be getting a sequel in 2020.
One of the movie’s most memorable scenes has Maverick arguing with Kelly McGillis’ character Charlie, who just confesses she has feelings for him. Dumbfounded, he just leans in and kisses her. As romantic as it was, it was completely unscripted. Cruise merely forgot his lines and improvised, and director Tony Scott liked it so much that he kept it.
