When they learned about Debbie’s initiative, the West Side’s employees were stunned, ecstatic, and above all – humbled.
“College is hard, but the most difficult part about college is the financial aspect,” Kayla said. “What Debbie is doing will not only help me, but the dozens of students that are involved with the West Side.” She was eternally grateful to them. The café’s owner agreed, and wanted to drive a point home. “We’re an old-school, traditional Southern café,” he said, where the clients are more than neighbors – they’re family.
