A fellow glider and friend Gerald Ameseder, who had jumped at the same time, managed to reach the ground. Gerald and others from below watched in helpless worry of what to do next. They knew Ewa was in serious trouble. To even expert gliders like Gerald, this was the most violent lightning storm he had ever seen.
There was tremendous panic on the ground and the hysteria was overwhelming. After 200 paragliders had jumped from Mount Borah, it was up to them in the sky and them alone to try and survive. The German paragliding team was frantically searching for her descent. She was in serious danger and they had to do everything they could do to find her – whether she was alive or not.
