Unsure of his next move, Lt. Short began to focus on the task at hand. At the time, he was boiling in the summer heat and knew that the metal of the car would simply heighten that heat. Because of this, he was aware that the baby was going to overheat – if he hadn’t overheated already. As a dedicated police officer, Lt. Short was aware of the dangers of keeping a baby in a hot car and didn’t want this particular baby to come to a dismal end. He knew he needed to act fast.
