As one of James Potter’s best friends and maker of the Marauders Map, Lupin immediately strikes a bond with Harry when he is first introduced in The Prisoner of Azkaban. As Harry’s Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Lupin is an extremely talented wizard – but holds an unfortunate affliction. As a werewolf, Lupin struggles to fit in, but proves a vital member of the Order of the Phoenix, until his sad death during the Battle of Hogwarts. Yes, we give you permission to cry.
