It soon became crystal clear for everyone aboard the Pacific Princess that the chase had come to an end at last. The distress flare led them here, to this seemingly random point in the open ocean, to find… a life raft!
What Captain Slight was feeling at that moment is hard to describe, as he wrestled with both satisfaction at his instinct being proven right and a more pressing fear that people may be in danger down there. Then, he spotted movement in the water, and forgot about it all.
