The coast guard searched and searched, right up to 3:30am the following morning, but found nothing. They had no choice but to call the search off at that point, and come back at dawn.
Return they did, but unfortunately found two bodies – later identified as those of the two missing men. While the mission was not a complete success, without the quick thinking – and action – of the Pacific Princess, its crew, and especially its captain, the entire thing might have ended with a far bigger tragedy.
