Finally, after sailing in the flare’s general direction, something could be made out in the distance. The ship was still too far away to be able to tell what it was for now, but at least it gave some indication it was probably sailing in the right direction.
It would not all be for naught, or so the captain and his crew had hoped. There was one detail that ate away at them – there was nothing else around the distant object. Was it just floating refuse?
