When they first burst onto the scene, rock band Creed seemed like most other post-grunge bands. It was later revealed they were a Christian rock band and the song Higher was believed to be about a holy spirit’s ascension to heaven.
The song was instead written about lucid dreaming, where your body is asleep, but your mind is awake and controlling your dream. Frontman Scott Stapp was inspired by Buddhist monks to try and get rid of a nasty recurring nightmare.
