The lyrics of Buddy Holly by Weezer are firstly, not about the ‘50s singer. Then, on the face of things, it can seem like the song is a romantic tribute to a lover but that’s not what the song is about either.

Rivers Cuomo, the singer in Weezer, said the song is actually about his commitment to a girl, but in a totally platonic way. He was very willing to defend her but not in a romantic way.
