The studio brought him into Moonlighting thanks to his performance in ‘80s classic comedy movie, Revenge of the Nerds. His first role came in romcom Risky Business, where he appeared alongside Tom Cruise in 1983. Later in his career, he appeared in musical biopic Ray as the record producer Ahmet Ertegün. Armstrong appeared in the 2016 rebooted series of ‘80s action mystery show MacGyver and provided the voice of Maru in 2014 animated movie Planes: Fire & Rescue.
