Shepherd is best known to film fans for her roles in 1976 psychological thriller Taxi Driver and 1971 drama The Last Picture Show. Throughout her entire career, she has been outspoken for LGBT rights and was present when the National Civil Rights Museum was opened in Memphis. After appearing in Moonlighting, she continued to work in television and starred in her own sitcom, Cybill, from 1995 – 98 for which she received nominations both at the Golden Globes and the Emmys.
