River Phoenix was often compared to James Dean as he was quickly becoming one of the biggest young actors in Hollywood. Because of this, it came as a shock when the actor passed away at the age of 23, before he could really meet his full potential.
Best known for his role in Stand By Me, Phoenix went on to other projects as well, even being nominated for several awards. River was accompanied by friends and siblings when he collapsed outside a club and later died from substance intoxication.
