It wasn’t long before everything became too much for Nadia Comăneci to handle. During 1977 the young gymnast said she felt as though she couldn’t escape from the disasters happening around her, so drank bleach in an attempt to take her own life. Nadia was just 15 years old. The event ended with a two day stay in the hospital, but Nadia commented that at least she didn’t have to train. She chose to deny the rumors initially but admitted during a 1990 interview that they were all true. The Romanian officials decided to reinstate Bela Karolyi as her coach.
