Even with everything that was going on at home, Nadia was able to qualify for the 1980 Olympics held in Moscow. However, the games didn’t go to plan for Nadia or her coach. The gymnast was able to walk away with two gold and two silver medals, but there was controversy about the scores she had been given. Bela Karolyi argued that Nadia had been scored unfairly, but this didn’t go down well with the Romanian Government. The whole dispute was broadcast on television, and the country felt as though they had been embarrassed by the coach’s outburst.
