With her growing popularity, the government of Romania saw Nadia Comăneci as a cash cow that could be an incredible money maker for them. During 1981 the gymnast went on her own ‘Nadia Tour’ across America where they stopped in 11 different cities. It was well marketed, and even better written to pay the Romanian government $250,000, while Nadia took home just $1,000 for all her work. It was during this time that his relationship with their home country and life for Nadia’s mentor, Bela Karolyi, began to crumble.
