Nadia Comăneci had plenty of friends that were already in the States before she made the move which made it even more confusing as to why she felt so isolated. Plenty of Romanians had moved to the country, including Bela Karolyi, her former coach. Bela had tried to make contact with Nadia many times after she first moved, but was unsuccessful at getting hold of his previous student. However, there was a reason for this. Constantin Panait had been making sure that Nadia never received any of the calls. This whole time Nadia never knew.
