Unfortunately for Romania, in 1995 Bela Karolyi shed light onto the culture they all endured in Romania during his interview with the Los Angeles Times. The story had made its way to the States where Bela spoke about the secret police that was still controlling a significant portion of the country; they would even beat anyone that went against them. Bela also said that with the pressure the government would’ve been putting on the coach, it is no surprise that the little girl was killed.
