[post_page_title]Blowing the vault open – $176 million[/post_page_title]
This one’s a classic “break into a vault” kind of robbery. In March, 1972, professional burglars used dynamite to get into the safe deposit vault of the United California Bank in Laguna Niguel.
The burglary was executed to perfection, and the robbers were clearly pros, getting away with $176 million in cash and valuables. They did make one mistake, however, that later proved catastrophic – they got careless. A few months after the heist, they carried out a similar job in Ohio, and that particular robbery eventually led to their capture.
