[post_page_title]If not for the Ferrari – $218 million[/post_page_title]
Italian career criminal Valerio Viccei moved to the U.K. for a change of pace. He was allegedly back to his old ways in short order, targeting the Knightsbridge Safe Deposit Centre in London in July, 1987.
Initially posing as a client of the center, known to be frequented by London’s rich and famous, Viccei cased the joint, eventually returning with accomplices. They subdued employees, and got away with $218 million in today’s money. Viccei fled to Latin America, but returned for his prized Ferrari – at which point British police nabbed him.
