[post_page_title]The million dollar mugging – $373 million[/post_page_title]
The City of London is Britain’s financial hub, meaning it’s usually a safe place. But in May, 1990, a money broker’s messenger was mugged at knifepoint in a quiet side street. Why even bring up a common mugging?
The messenger, 58-year-old John Goddard, was carrying Bank of England Treasury bills and bearer bonds from other banks, which are just as good as cash. Goddard was robbed of 301 such bills and bonds, worth $373 million! London police and the FBI got back all except two bonds thanks to an informant.
