When Meghan Markle released a limited edition collection of businesswear for her charity patronage, Smart Works, the world was agog. The American Duchess was using the transformative power of fashion to better the lives of underprivileged women, and it was beautiful.
But we must not forget one very simple thing – Diana did it first. Back in 1994, a TV documentary was released about Prince Charles’ infidelity. Far from being the “Shy Di” the tabloids pegged her as, Diana controlled the narrative by wearing a skintight, ruched mini-dress for a charity benefit. The next day, newspaper headlines were all about her look and not her husband’s indiscretions.
