Diana’s attempt to bond with the public involved more than just talking to them. Apparently, the Princess also loved hugs, and she regularly dished them out to people, no matter who they were. This was something that the Royal Family was initially set against because they believed it sent out the wrong impression.
However, Diana was of the opposite opinion. She felt that trying to distance themselves from everyone else would do more harm than good. They needed to embrace a relationship with the public, not hide from it.
