During an exercise with a drama coach, when Mariah Carey was on the hunt for fame, she was asked to think of a place where she really felt safe. Carey later admitted in an interview that after growing up poor and having mixed-race parents, she couldn’t think of anywhere that didn’t bring up negative memories for her.
So, when she started turning over her first millions, she purchased a triplex in Tribeca that would become her safe space. The interior was designed by legendary Mario Buatta, as an ode to the golden age of Hollywood.
