Carlo Ponti wanted to train Loren after he saw her at Miss Eleganza. His eyes were drawn to her, and with his experience in the film industry, he knew what it would take to make her a star. Ponti got to work teaching Loren manners and trying to get rid of her accent to give her a more neutral tone of voice.
The film producers also insisted that Loren learned English and began reading books about art. Ponti was Loren’s mentor, but soon their relationship became a romantic one.
