As he was 22 years older than Loren, it was always likely that Carlo Ponti would pass away before his younger wife. By the 2000s, they had left France behind and moved to Switzerland to be closer to home.
In 2007 Carlo was rushed to hospital as he was having breathing difficulties. Ponti was 94 years old when he passed away on January 10, after spending 10 days fighting for his life. Loren and Ponti had 50 special years together, and she didn’t leave his side at the hospital.
