Eva’s upbeat nature isn’t unexpected for someone in her position. The doctors informed her parents that children with Cockayne syndrome are generally some of the happiest in the world. As their brains never develop in the same way as other kids their age, they always retain that curious and spirited personality that comes from being so young. Alicia and Dan saw that as a shred of light in their dark situation. Although what Eva was going through was heartbreaking, at least she’d keep on smiling until the very end.
