In fact, producers will often plant some of the coolest items for the gang to discover. The show wouldn’t be as interesting if Mike, Frank, and Danielle didn’t find anything of note, so it works in favor of the producers to do some behind-the-scenes digging.
Of course, there are many fans who aren’t too pleased with this little nugget of information. They like to believe that the show is completely authentic and organic, but it seems as though that would be just too difficult for the American Pickers to pull off.
