Although comedic actor Chevy Chase was one of the original stars of Saturday Night Live in the mid ’70s, he was also the first cast member to get banned from the show. After leaving SNL on his own terms after two years, Chase continued to return to the set several times following as a guest host. However, his eighth time hosting in 1997 ended up being his last.
During dress rehearsal, the Christmas Vacation star – who had a reputation for being disrespectful to the cast – slapped cast member Cheri Oteri on the back of her head. Fellow cast mate Will Ferrell reported the incident, and Chase was never welcomed back again.
