The late comedian legend Joan Rivers was actually a permanent guest on The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was hosting. However, after landing a gig as the star of her very own late-night show on Fox, The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers, their famous friendship came to an abrupt end.
While she did make history as the first woman to ever host a late-night broadcast talk show, the show was unfortunately a flop. It also resulted in Carson, who felt betrayed by his longtime co-worker and pal, to ban her from ever coming back to his show. The ban was so harsh, that it even continued when Leno took over in 1992. Finally, in 2014, the ban was lifted by Jimmy Fallon in his premiere episode as host of The Tonight Show.
