While you may not necessarily be familiar with Los Angeles punk band Fear, you certainly know one of their biggest fans. That fan is SNL alum John Belushi, who by 1981 had left the show and transitioned to acting.
Being a huge Fear fan, he tried to get them on the soundtrack of his movie, but when the studio balked at the idea, he got them hired as SNL musical guests as compensation. It didn’t quite work out. The band used offensive language in their set and caused about $20,000 in damage. They were subsequently banned.
