In 1993, one of the biggest names in hip-hop was California group Cypress Hill, who smashed records with songs like Insane in the Brain. Being on the cutting edge of music as well as comedy, Saturday Night Live invited them on as musical guests.
That was a decision Lorne Michaels and co. would come to regret. Knowing the group’s reputation, producers specifically asked them not to partake in any illicit substances. Of course, Cypress Hill member DJ Muggs proceeded to do just that. Then they also trashed their instruments, and the stage, and were banned for life.
