Another day, another beloved Borscht Belt comedian who got banned from a show. Jackie Mason is still with us, thankfully, but his career seemed like it might not make it. Back in 1964, he was doing his standup routine on The Ed Sullivan Show when the host held up two fingers to signal to Mason that’s how many minutes he had left.
Mason, clearly distracted by the sudden interurption, pointed back at Sullivan – who thought he’d given him the finger! A furious Sullivan banned Mason from the show, and he struggled getting TV work for the next 20 years.
