All of the inmates who were on hand to help Joe and Shadow that day were there because they had clean records in prison. Inmates are only welcomed onto the Florida Work Release program if they’re close to finishing their sentence and haven’t proven to be a cause for concern.

These prisoners mean it when they say they want to put their criminal past behind them, and their consistently good behavior is a sign of that. Now, they just need to keep it up as their last days behind bars approaches.
