Although the situation they were in was a bad one, they were lucky that it had happened in public and not outside their house. It was only a matter of minutes before a group of people had crowded around the car wanting to help. They all had good intentions, but they were equally stumped about how to get the kid out of the vehicle. There didn’t seem to be any simple solutions that would rescue the one-year-old without frightening the child or damaging the car.
It wasn’t just well-meaning passersby that stopped to offer Joe and Shadow a hand, though. Among the crowd of people were a group of inmates who were in the area as part of a work-release program. Compared to everyone else there, they were the most capable of breaking into a car, but would they be able to help the concerned parents?
