After several attempts, the team, and the family who discovered the cub began losing hope. The team had a bunch of tools prepared, but Needs was determined to rescue the cub, who was no doubt terrified, without causing undue stress with the use of various pieces of equipment.
He continued reaching down into the pipe, with nothing to guide him to the cub besides his sense of touch where the pipe was only just wide enough for his arm, let alone for him to see what he was doing!
