He struggled to put himself through college. He attended Rutgers University in New Jersey, where of all things he majored in Spanish Theater of the Golden Age. He’s stated that “my suggestion to anybody in college is not to look at it as a trade school… but as an opportunity to study something you won’t have the chance to study again.” He worked at a restaurant as a line cook while in college. It was there that he learned that he enjoyed the adrenaline rush of the restaurant pace.
