Like many people his age, Chris was desperately in need of a job. While finding work is hard enough anyway, he had the added difficulty of looking for something in the creative industry. Whether a writer, actor or singer, finding a job in a creative field is notoriously difficult. Opportunities are slim, and when they arise, hundreds (if not thousands) of other people go for them.
Your chances of standing out from the crowd are minimal, but someone has to come out on top. Sumlin knew that finding somewhere to hire him for his specific skillset would be hard, but that didn’t dissuade him from pursuing his chosen career. There was nothing more he wanted to do with his life, and he had faith that his dedication would pay off. It was just a matter of how long it would take for that to finally happen.
