There was one more factor to the story. It turned out that it was her husband, and not the disappointed woman, that kept bringing up the proposal. It seemed as though he was embarrassed to tell the story of how they got engaged.
Perhaps doing it all again would be a way for him to have a better tale to tell his friends? The woman felt as though this was the only reason he wanted to have another engagement and believed it was all to make himself feel better rather than because he wanted to see her happy.
