Tina and Ike’s strained relationship was often overshadowed by the fact that the two worked well together professionally. When collaborating, they produced hits like “River Deep – Mountain High” and “Proud Mary,” two songs that are regularly considered as being some of Tina’s best. However, while Ike might have been helping her career to take off, he was doing no favors for her wellbeing. Tina was struggling so badly that she tried to end it all in 1968, although her attempt thankfully proved to be unsuccessful.
