Perhaps the most outrageous thing Kelly had to do before getting married was to pay her husband a dowry. If Grace wanted to become the Princess of Monaco, she had to offer the right price. It was hardly the most romantic proposition a groom had ever made, but what choice did the actress have?
The Prince could easily find someone else to marry if Kelly wasn’t willing to pay up. Obviously, given her fame and her family’s wealth, money wasn’t an issue. However, that didn’t make Rainier III’s expectations right.
