Karen and Richard were able to shoot to the top thanks to the magic created by both siblings. It was Richard who was considered the lead engine behind the band’s creativity and new sound. Over the years, Richard had learned the how to perfect his skills as a musician, as well as his talents in arrangement and composition, all of which he put to good use when refining the Carpenters’ sound.
And while he has noted that his musical inspiration includes soft rock bands such as The Mamas & Papas and The Beach Boys, he also wanted to create something new with their own harmonies.
