In 1989, a TV film titled The Karen Carpenter Story was released on CBS. The biopic aimed to highlight the struggles the superstar had to endure, particularly in relation to her controlling mother and sibling.
During the last part of the film, Agnes has a scene in which she tells her daughter how much she has always loved her. The rewrite was an attempt to brighten up the story, but no such events were ever reported to have happened in real life.
