At the time, the public didn’t know much about the Carpenter siblings’ private lives, especially with regard to their parents, Agnes and Harold. Their mother was always portrayed as a kind and loving woman in any of the biographical films made about Karen and Richard.
Reality, though, was apparently less idyll, as Agnes reportedly never showed tenderness towards either of her children. Both Richard and Agnes always made sure that anything portraying the family in a negative light didn’t make it to the final cut.
