Richard didn’t keep his opinions to himself when he heard the music his sister had created while he was away in rehab. He expressed disgust at how provocative Karen’s lyrics were, which went against everything the Carpenters’ entire oeuvre.
In addition, Richard had allegedly made declarations about how weak Karen’s voice was, as well as about the songs being written in a pitch that was too high for his sister to properly sing. Karen was devastated by her brother’s comments, which were said to have made her question herself and ask their producer what she had done wrong with her music.
