A year after the band’s formation, Richard decided to take them to the next level by entering them in a Battle of the Bands competition at the local Hollywood Bowl. The three had been practicing hard, and it all paid off when they walked away with first place and a recording deal with RCA Records.
The next several months meant plenty of time in the company’s studio to record cover versions of various famous hits. Despite their recognizable talent, though, producers working with the three didn’t want their music to go public as of yet.
