Even though Karen had become visibly much thinner, the public was never aware of what she had been struggling with for so long. Her death came as a complete shock, with people struggling to understand what could have caused the singer to die at such a young age.
A few weeks passed before the family held her funeral, where more than 1,000 people turned up to pay their respects, including jazz musician Herb Albert, singers Dionne Warwick and Olivia Newton-John, and figure skater Dorothy Hamill.
